How to Join
Application for full NZDA Membership is restricted to dentists and dental specialists who are registered with Dental Council New Zealand. To apply to become a member, please complete ALL sections of our membership application form below and submit to us for the Association’s consideration.
Within this application process is also the facility to join Dental Protection as an NZDA membership benefit. You will be prompted for this once your NZDA membership application has been submitted.
Points to note:- New member applications are put forward for approval at the monthly board meetings. Only once your application has been approved, in accordance with NZDA Rules will your membership status be confirmed.

Full Membership
Full membership applies to full-time dentists in private practice.

Full Membership - Full-time salaried institution based dentists
Full-time institution based practice, who cannot access a reimbursement from their employers. This includes Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora employees, University of Otago Faculty of Dentistry staff and NZ Defence Force staff.

Dentists practising part-time, no more than 10 hours per week or 500 hours per annum.

Subscription Year
As a NZDA member your yearly membership and publication subscription year runs from 1 April to 31 March the following year.
If you apply to join part-way through the subscription year, you will be eligible for reduced membership rates as set out below:
- Join between 1 April and 30 June - full year subscription
- Join between 1 July and 30 September - 3/4 year subscription
- Join between 1 October and 31 December - 1/2 year subscription
- Join between 1 January and 31 March - 1/4 year subscription

New Graduates
Upon graduation, you will need to apply to become a Graduate NZDA and Dental Protection member.
A discounted NZDA membership subscription rate (50%) is available for graduates in their first and second year of practice (25%). As a graduate member you will receive the same member benefits as a full member.
Becoming a Graduate NZDA member will also mean you can access the discounted Graduate Dental Protection membership rate.
Remember, your Student NZDA and Dental Protection membership will cease on March 31st in the year immediately following your graduation.
NZDA will send all new graduates an email reminder in February to reapply. This will allow us to obtain your up-to-date contact details at that time.

If you are eligible for membership as an Associate or a Postgraduate member you will receive the following membership benefits:
