Silver diamine fluoride is now available for use in New Zealand. This product is a welcome addition to the dental tool kit. This webinar series is designed to explore SDF, its applications and its potential to enhance patient outcomes. The series will explore the background and science behind SDF along with the clinical applications across different population groups, providing the knowledge and confidence to implement SDF into your clinical practice.

Learning outcomes

Populations are ageing and keeping their natural teeth longer, and there is an increasing expectation by patients that they will retain their natural dentition into their later years. This presentation will focus on the assessment and conservative restorative management of high caries risk patients and vulnerable adult patients. Emphasis will be placed on the management of exposed root surfaces and options for managing root surface caries and the appropriate use of fluorides, particularly silver fluoride. A range of clinical cases will be presented to show contemporary management strategies, along with the use of appropriate dental restorative materials and techniques to demonstrate how to enhance and optimise outcomes for patients. Topics / Learning Objectives: • Assessing and understanding the individual oral health needs of the high risk and vulnerable adult patient. • Reviewing the use of fluorides in the management of caries. • Determine the most appropriate restorative management for root surface lesions, and high caries risk patients. • Appreciate the benefits of minimally invasive restorations in preserving and maintaining the patient’s dentition. • Evaluating the apparently hopeless tooth and options for management • Develop maintenance strategies that best suit the individual patients to attain optimised long term outcomes.
