Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) Topamine is now a registered medicine that can be used in Aotearoa, New Zealand by dental clinicians. SDF can be used to arrest or to slow the progression of cavitated and non-cavitated active caries lesions in primary and permanent teeth. It can be used to prevent root caries from progressing in older adults, to treat tooth hypersensitivity or also pain related to exposed dentine or hypomineralised enamel. There are multiple applications for the use of SDF in private practice. This presentation will discuss the history of silver in medicine, all about SDF, it uses and application. We will also discuss management of patient and parent perceptions around the aesthetics of SDF. We will provide resources for consent, tray setup as well as tips and tricks for placing SDF. We will also share some updates on research and some clinical cases.
