This is a course for dentists who wish to learn how to provide IV Sedation using Midazolam only. The program is for practitioners with minimal or no previous experience in IV sedation. You must have been graduated for at least one year, or hold a current hospital house surgeon position. The training program will meet the requirements of the NZDA Code of Practice and the DCNZ Practice Standard for IV Sedation. The two day program involves lectures, demonstrations, high fidelity simulation, simulated IV sedation experience, practical training, cannulation practical and a multi choice examination. You will receive the course manual one month prior and will need to be familiar with this. Do allow time to study this as you must pass the course examination with an 80% pass mark to proceed further. If you fail to gain this grade you will have to repeat the course at your own expense the following year. To gain certification following completion of the course and successful passing of the course exam you will be required to: 1. Observe three cases of IV sedation with a mentor who is a member of the NZSSD and who will sign a letter confirming that you have done this. 2. You will then need to pass 'Safe Sedation Training' which is an online sedation learning program (the cost of this is included in the course fee). This must be completed within 6 months following the course. If you do not complete these requirements within the 6 month time frame, you will need to repeat the course or the Sedation 202 midazolam refresh course at your own expense.
Learn the overall skills and protocols to be able to deliver IV sedation with a single drug midazolam technique. Learn cannulation skills. Learn patient assessment skills. Learn how to sedate safely. Practice scenarios of sedation with simulation
