This course is designed to provide dentists with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to manage tooth wear effectively. Tooth wear is a multifactorial condition, requiring a comprehensive approach that incorporates restorative, orthodontic, and preventive techniques. This course emphasises the need for thorough patient assessment and tailored treatment strategies to manage tooth wear while considering the patient's general health, lifestyle, and psychological factors.

Learning outcomes

The course begins with an introduction to treatment choices, including the Dahl technique and restorative and orthodontic approaches, to manage tooth wear. A key part of the training focuses on assessing tooth wear and its associated factors, including bruxism, during new patient consultations. While bruxism is a contributing factor, the course gives priority to understanding the broader implications of tooth wear. Participants will gain valuable insights into diagnosing and managing mild to moderate tooth wear, with a focus on restoring occlusal stability. The course will include a refresher on centric relation, along with a practical demonstration using a custom-made Lucia jig and bite registration techniques. These techniques are especially useful for patients with tooth wear who require an increase in occlusal vertical dimension. Further, the course covers lab prescription protocols for creating clear stents for injection moulded technique, treatment strategies for long-term management, and the adjustment of occlusal splints, including Michigan splints, to prevent further tooth wear. Real-world case presentations will highlight effective management strategies for tooth wear. By focusing on a comprehensive, multifactorial approach to tooth wear, this course ensures that dentists are equipped to prevent, manage, and treat tooth wear effectively, improving long-term patient outcomes. The participants will receive a comprehensive patient assessment checklist and templates for lab prescriptions, specifically designed to assist in the effective management of tooth wear. These practical resources will enable clinicians to streamline their patient evaluations and enhance the precision of their treatment planning, ensuring the best outcomes for patients with tooth wear.
