Induction Course for Maxillofacial/Dental House Officers

An essential induction course designed specifically for new Maxillofacial and Dental House Officers in New Zealand. This course provides the vital knowledge and skills needed for a day 1 house officer.

Learning outcomes

• Adapting to life in a hospital environment • Understanding the responsibilities of an OMFS house officer in various settings (ward, emergency department, theatre, outpatient) • Expectations for on-call duties • Patient clerking and ward care • Recognizing and responding to sick patients • Preparing for ward rounds • Essential ward skills: cannulation and blood sampling • Managing soft tissue trauma and suturing • Assessing odontogenic infections and facial swelling • Performing OMF trauma examinations, including assessments of fractures
