Fluoride varnish was developed in Germany in 1964 and since then it has been used around the world as a gold standard in professionally applied fluoride treatments for caries prevention in all age groups. The evidence base for the safety and efficacy of fluoride varnish is compelling and professionally applied 5% sodium fluoride varnish remains one of the cornerstones of preventive dentistry.

Learning outcomes

This presentation will explore if fluoride varnish is still relevant in 2024 in contemporary dental practice and community settings.
